A retro-inspired Athenian taverna arrives in Mayfair – discover Maza

Maza brings the spirit of a 1980s Athenian taverna to the heart of Mayfair, London. Located on the charming Bruton Place in Mayfair, Maza brings a lively piece of Athens to one of London’s most polished neighbourhoods.

Created by Christina Mouratoglou and Adrien Carré – the duo behind Notting Hill favourites Mazi and Suzi Tros, two restaurants that helped redefine contemporary Greek dining in London – Maza draws inspiration from the convivial energy of the 1980s Athenian tavernas that shaped their upbringing.

Designed by London-based Archer Humphryes Architects, the retro-chic dining room balances character with contemporary design. Thoughtful details, such as framed handwritten recipes from the owner’s grandmother, add a personal touch. A cocktail bar leads into the main space, where mirrored surfaces, warm colours, and polished brass set the tone. Turntables provide the evening soundtrack, with vinyl spinning Greek classics as the room fills with conversation.

The menu reflects a modern approach to Greek dining while keeping the spirit of traditional hospitality and Greek cooking intact. Fresh fish, seasonal vegetables, and mezedes (small plates) are designed to be shared across the table. Classic dishes such as grilled dolmades (vine leaf rolls with rice and aromatic herbs) or kokkinisto (slow-cooked veal in tomato sauce with hand-cut fries) bring a taste of Athens to the heart of London.
