Gagosian’s Athens outpost situates global contemporary art within one of the city’s most established neighbourhoods
On a quiet street in Kolonaki, Gagosian’s Athens gallery brings international contemporary art into one of the city’s most established neighbourhoods. Situated within a city long shaped by cultural exchange and intellectual debate, it places global contemporary practice within a distinctly local environment.
Clean architectural lines and a measured scale create a setting, that allows exhibitions to unfold without distraction. Natural light moves through the space, and works stand confidently on their own terms. The rooms feel deliberate and restrained, encouraging visitors to move at their own pace and enter into dialogue with what is on view.
Gagosian in Athens offers something increasingly rare: space to look carefully. In doing so, it shifts the focus from reputation to perspective, a quiet reminder that travel is often defined by how closely we are willing to observe.
At the time of writing, the gallery is presenting:
Roe Ethridge: Rude in the Good Way, a solo photography exhibition at Gagosian Athens, which opened on 22 January 2026 and runs through 7 March 2026. The presentation brings together images by the American artist Roe Ethridge – including fashion shoots, portraits, still lifes, and interiors -creating visual and conceptual links across different modes and registers.
